The sandy calcareous clay soil strewn with rocks and stones around the village of Las Mesas in La Mancha makes it a difficult place to grow grapes. The arid Mediterranean-Continental climate only amplifies the harsh conditions. The Tempranillo harvested from these vineyards produces a deeply colored, full flavored wine with hints of ripe plums, black cherries, and sweet exotic spices.
